I met Ron in the '80s when we both lived in Vancouver, BC (he still does). At that time he led a successful local band called Bootleg that was getting tons of Canadian country airplay. He loomed like a celebrity in my eyes, and he still commands my deep admiration--besides which we've become great friends. Here's something we wrote a few years ago when I was briefly back in BC. Ron was thinking of his late father and examining his relationship with his own son. I think all of that seeped into this song, rendered with brawny poignancy by the talented Jamie Lee Thurston.
